Kings at Coyotes: Oh No, It’s the Howling

The good news: the Kings remembered how to score goals! The bad news: the other team scored more of them. While the home opener had that sparkly banner raising to cushion the shutout loss to the Sharks, this game featured a sad under-the-wire OT loss and the damn Coyotes.

Just 1:32 into the first period, Tanner Pearson breaks the drought and finally gives the Kings their first goal of the season. Not only did he nicely pick that puck away for an unassisted beauty of a goal, but the crowd of Kings fans cheering right on the glass made it that much sweeter.

cheers

The Kings kept the goal train going, and our favorite toothless wonder Jeff Carter snaps a nice one to give the Kings a 2-0 lead.

Not a bad start, but the Coyotes are able to get one on the board right before the first period ends. “Not to worry,” I said, “we still have two periods left to get some more goals!” The Kings had different plans though and were limited to just 3 measly shots in the 2nd period. After 3 periods, the Kings still get outshot 38-23, so things aren’t looking too great. Meanwhile, the Coyotes scored another to tie it up, and we had to listen to the howling yet again. Ugh.

Yes, I am forever annoyed by the howling.

The Kings get 2 power plays during the 3rd period, but do absolutely nothing with them, so what’s new. Onward to overtime, and it’s the Kings’ love of taking ill-timed penalties that gives the Coyotes a power play which of course, they are able to capitalize on for the win.

A loser point for the Kings, and at least the only way left to go is up. Hopefully.
